Mountain Boy is the folk-rock project of New Zealand songwriter and producer Aaron Clarke. Emerging from a year-long songwriting project that saw Clarke write, record, and release a song every week, Mountain Boy officially debuted in 2019 with recordings made at Roundhead Studios alongside Nic Manders. That same year, Clarke opened for The Paper Kites on their New Zealand tour before relocating to London.

Following a return to New Zealand, Clarke wrote and recorded Mountain Boy’s debut album The Days, released in 2024. Crafted largely in isolation, the record marked a creative reset and led to headline shows across the country, as well as support slots for Boy & Bear.

 

Since becoming fully independent, Mountain Boy has toured extensively, opening for Avalanche City and Ziggy Alberts,

selling out their debut Auckland headline show at Galatos, and touring Australia and the UK for the first time.

In 2026, Mountain Boy returns with The Nights, their highly anticipated sophomore album, set for release on August 7th. The first two singles, Like You Do and The Give And The Take, have already eclipsed the reach of all previous releases in just six weeks. With major support slots lined up and worldwide headline tours on the horizon, 2026 is shaping up to be Mountain Boy’s breakout year.
